Hi there,

My name is Gigi and I am a friend of Shorouq, helping her run this fundraising campaign.

Shorouq, or Shooq, is a 26-year-old woman living in North Gaza, doing everything she can to protect and care for her mother and four siblings in unimaginable conditions.

Since the start of the ongoing genocide, her family’s home has been damaged by bombings, and every day is a struggle to access the most basic necessities. Food is scarce and expensive, and there are times when Shooq goes without eating for days to make sure her family has enough. Her mother is dealing with compounding, serious health issues, and the cost of medicine and basic care continues to rise.

Shooq needs around $300 per week to cover food, medicine, and urgent repairs to their home so it can be safer and more livable. This amount can make a world of difference to help a family survive and preserve their dignity under unthinkable stress.

Like many Palestinians, especially women, Shooq chooses not to show her face online. This is not only a matter of personal comfort, but a form of safety and protection. Israel has a documented history of targeting and surveilling Palestinians. Privacy is one of the few forms of protection left for people like Shooq. It’s one of many injustices they face that in order to receive support, they are often expected to sacrifice their privacy and perform their suffering in ways that are more “marketable” so that we on the outside will empathize enough with them to support them.

But Shooq should not have to package her pain or trauma to be worthy of care.

If you believe in the dignity of all people, in supporting someone simply because she deserves to live with safety and hope, please consider donating. Your support can help her feed her family, access medicine, and begin to repair their home. Even small donations, when shared widely, can sustain her through the weeks ahead. A monthly donation will help alleviate Shooq from the daily stress of trying to find donors to support her family.

Please share, support, and stand with Shooq. Thank you for showing up with love and compassion. If you have any questions, you can send me a message at [email protected]
